Our trip across North America in 1969
You came to visit us in the summer of 1969 while we were living in Toronto and from there we set off on an epic 2,700 mile journey across Canada and back through the northern USA at least another 2,700 miles! Off we went for a three week adventure, you, Roger, Andrea age 4 and me, camping and cooking outdoors in some beautiful locations. I do remember that the prairies seemed endless, Calgary just after the Stampede and still buzzing, beautiful Lake Louise where you went horse riding along the shoreline. Through the magnificent Rocky Mountains and on to Vancouver where we stayed with Pam and Derek. They showed us the sights of the city including a lumberjack show in Stanley Park. We went out fishing and you caught a salmon that we cooked for lunch.
Crossing the border into the USA and on to Yellowstone Park with its unique and incredible scenery and wildlife. Brown bears came around at night looking for food in the garbage bins near the shower blocks on the campsite. A bit scary to say the least especially as you were warned not to have food in your tent with bears around!!! On through the badlands of Montana and Dakota. I particularly remember Jackson, Wyoming, where there was a real sense of the Wild West and with a breathtaking backdrop of the Grand Teton mountains. Did you buy a cowboy hat there?
Happy memories of a very special time all those years ago when we were all so young.
Happy birthday. Love from Sue
